It's funny / disturbing how some parents and teachers try to dissuade students from pursuing creative subjects because they think they aren't 'academic' enough. These same people also probably don't know... what a neutral vowel is, how to ensure precision when producing alveolar consonants, the role of the uvula and soft palate in achieving a balance of resonance, the various tools required for vocal modulation, the difference between clavicular and diaphragmatic intercostal breathing, the key articulatory organs, or the role of the theatre guilds in developing core social and political structures in the absence of a more developed nation state.... among other things...
